Why did TCTC team up with Advanced Academics?

TCTC teamed up with Advanced Academics to offer our students the opportunity to receive superior training in all academic fields and offer an opportunity to those who may not be able to attend TCTC due to scheduling conflicts with their home school.  This is another way for students to receive graduation credit for the subject they needed and still be able to come to TCTC to receive training for a job.

Is online learning for me?

  • Give the form to a TCTC counselor to finish your enrollment.

Can I do the work at home?

Yes, you can do the work at home or anywhere there is a computer and internet access.  However, you will be given a time and the days when you will need to do your work in Lab 3 of the BCT classroom.  You will also have to take any test in Lab 3 of the BCT classroom.

What does it cost?

It is absolutely free if you are a student in good standing at TCTC.  TCTC will pay for the course.  If you fail the class or drop out of the class after the 30-day trial period then you agree to pay the $350 fee for the class.

Can I take all my classes at TCTC instead of going to my home school?

No, these classes are only to help you receive the credit in the classes you need that will allow you to attend TCTC.  It is not a substitute for classes you could take at your home school.

Can I take more than one class a semester?

If your home school counselor has given you permission to take more than one class through Advanced Academics, and you finish one class before the semester is over, then TCTC may enroll you in the next class you need to take.  TCTC will not enroll you in more than one class simultaneously.

When can I enroll?

You can enroll at the beginning of each semester if you are a new student.  If you are a repeating student enrolling in another class, you can enroll as soon as you finish the first class.

Do I have to be at TCTC to take my test?

Yes, you must take your test at TCTC in Computer Lab 3 in the BCT classroom.

What if I don’t have an email address?

If you don’t have an email address, then TCTC will help you create one through a free email service like Yahoo!.  It will be your responsibility to maintain your account and to use it properly.

If I don’t have a computer, can I still participate in the class?

You can still participate.  TCTC will offer times when you will be able to use Lab 3 in the BCT computer lab.  Most libraries have computers you can use and your home school should have computers available for you to use.  You can also get on anywhere there is a computer and internet access.  Not having a computer doesn’t stop you from participating in the class, but it can make it more difficult to succeed in the online class.

Will I be eligible for extra curricular activities if I am failing the course?

Every Friday Mr. Baker puts your grade and percentage of work done into a formula to figure out a grade for the week.  He will then send your home school counselor a list of names of students who are not passing their Advanced Academics course.  This could result in you not being eligible for extra curricular activities.

How can I figure out for myself if I am eligible for extra curricular activities?

Open the Average completion rate file in the forms section.  Use the percent of the course you have completed and the date for the week we are in, find out what percentage you have completed.  Add that number to the grade you have in the class and divide by 2 to see if you are passing.  If you have completed more of the course than what the week shows, then just use your actual grade to see if you are passing.  There is an example of this in the average completion rate file.
